Kendall Coffey spoke with Jesse Weber from the Law & Crime Network about the Cloud 9 shooting trial. In 2015 a 19-year-old young woman was killed, and five others were injured at Cloud 9 nightclub in Ocala, FL. The shooters immediately fled the scene. Now Laquan Barrow, Gary King, and Michael Smith are on trial for the young woman’s murder. All are charged with second-degree murder.
During the trial, Jesse notices that the prosecution is making a strong case against Mr. Barrow, possibly Mr. Smith, but not much against Mr. King. Jesse asks Coffey his take on what’s happening. Coffey believes that it was a good morning in court for Mr. King. The picture being painted is that Mr. King tried to be the peace maker and deescalate the situation. The testimony against him up until now has not been overwhelming. Five witnesses said they saw King at the nightclub and only one person said they saw him with a firearm, which was one of the victims. This particular victim initially said King and Smith were not the shooters, but only Barrow was. Now when he testified, he said all three. Coffey thinks that things are looking okay for Mr. King for now.
